Yesterday in my daily devotions, one of the verses of reference was Psalm 37:4. It says, “Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart.”(NASB) It goes on to say in verse 5, “Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.”(NASB) This was shown to me and it aligns with the season in my life right now, and it may align with some of yours.

When I think of my future, it is set up as a list of tasks I have yet to complete, that will further complete me. It’s like a bucket list that makes my life worth while. All of these things withWhen I think of my future, it is set up as a list of tasks I have yet to complete, that will further complete me. It’s like a bucket list that makes my life worthwhile. All of these things make my life valuable. Without them, I am not valuable. What I am going through right now is just a transition period or a stage in my life and I have to keep working to get to the final level where I get my rewards. I always looked to the future in this manner as well as the present.

What I noticed was that I am treating God like a power-up to get to the next level. Wikipedia defines a power-up as, “an object that adds temporary benefits or extra abilities”. He’s something I am using to get to my goal of an ideal life when He should be my ideal life. I was using Him as a stepping stool to help me reach the top shelf. I put my studies before Him by continually putting off reading my bible to study, thinking that God would be pleased that I’m working hard. Sometimes we think we are doing things for the glory of God when we are doing them for the glory of ourselves. That’s what I was doing. To delight myself in the Lord, I need to have a relationship with Him. A relationship with Him should be my goal. God is the finish line, not success in my career. God should be the end goal in my future.

Start planning your week around God, making Him the primary focus of all your actions. He is not a temporary being there for your benefit or there to give you special abilities that can make your life better. He should be your life, He should be your purpose, He should be your end goal.
