Starting second semester has been harder than I thought. In my head I was going to boost up my gpa and get perfect grades in all of my classes because I used the study methods I used last semester. Needless to say that didn’t happen and they didn’t help. I have new teachers who test me in different ways. I have different types of information to learn. So where do I go from here? In order to answer this question in searched for what seemed like forever for the answers online. I also went to the study help center at my school. Here’s what I learned:

  1. Sleep I know it’s simple but I tend to study instead of sleep thinking it’ll help me but instead it hurts me. I barely studied for my biology test and I got a B. I studied all night for my TAM test and I got a D. I was shocked, surprised, all of it. The worst part is that I felt better after the TAM test and I felt worst after the biology test. This semester I’m putting my sleep and myself before everything else.
  2. Study methods For TAM I used the whiteboard study method where I would use it to test myself and for Biology I used the method where you pretend like your teaching it. I was basically just explaining each slide to myself in my head and I only did that for 3-4 hours and I studied for TAM for 10+ hours. I think the biology method worked more for me because I wasn’t just memorizing information, I was understanding it. I didn’t even realize how well the method worked until I got my test back. Other study methods that can help is using the concept map method. There are many types of concept maps, but all of them are able to help get you to the point where you can understand the information.
  3. Me Time I tend to spend all day studying instead of taking time to relax. It hasn’t been working well in the past because at the end of the day my mind is fried. I have to take some time out of the day to relax and enjoy myself.

All in all I need to learn how to manage my time, and it doesn’t mean studying all day long. I need to take time for myself and study smarter. Though I felt more accomplished after the all nighter, it doesn’t mean that help me the most.
